ISHMAEL HOUSTON-JONES is a writer of fiction and essays, a curator of dance and performance, a performer and a choreographer. He lives and works in New York City.

From 2002 until 2007 ISHMAEL HOUSTON-JONES was the Coordinator for the Lambent Fellowship in the Arts of the Tides Foundation. In this capacity he created and implemented a program that awarded unrestricted multi-year grants in the amount of $21,000 each to individual visual and performing artists in New York City. From 2004 until 2007 Houston-Jones oversaw the granting of fellowships totaling $525,000.

Ishmael Houston-Jones was on the board of directors of the Danspace Project from 1984 until 2007 and is currently on the board of the board of Movement Research both in New York. Until recently he served as a member of the board of Headlong Dance Theater in Philadelphia.

He is an artist member of Performance Space 122 and Dance Theater Workshop and is a member of Dias y Flores Community Garden. He is on the advisory board of Culture Push.
