This is a 4-minute section of a 17-minute improvisation that Fred Holland and I performed at the Danspace Project at Saint Mark's Church, NYC in 1983 at the 15th anniversary of Contact Improvisation. Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith performed on the same program. For Fred and me our score was to do everything wrong and still technically be doing a Contact Improv duet. The things we were doing wrong were:

   1. We were Black
   2. We wore our "street" clothes, (as opposed to sweats)
   3. We wore heavy shoes, Fred, construction boots; me Army
   4. We spoke to each other
   5. We fucked with flow; intentionally interrupted ourselves
   6. We used a recorded sound score, (a loud looping from Kung Fu movies by Mark Allen Larson
   7. We stayed out of physical contact much of the time.
